PRACTICAL INFORMATION
Five days a week we will be working in teams, under the guidance of volunteers of the Village, for six hours a day. The detailed schedule will be discussed and adjusted by the group as a whole in regards to our specific needs. We will, in general, encourage the highest possible degree of self-determination and awareness of the group, enhancing discussion and games to help each of us to take part and responsibility in the managing of everyday life.
MEETING POINT
We will be meeting at the train station of Berceto, which is 50km from Parma, in the direction of La Spezia, on Sunday, July 14, in the afternoon. Please, contact us by mail a few days before to tell us the time of your arrival.
TRAVEL DIRECTIONS
There are regular trains from Parma (direction: La Spezia or Pontremoli), or from La Spezia. The station is Berceto. Direct trains (though only two a day) from Milano and from Bologna. If you come by car, the A15 (Parma-LaSpezia) highway exit is Borgotaro, left at the first crossing, and stop at the train station of Berceto, which is called Ghiare di Berceto, just 1km from the highway exit.

LIVING CONDITIONS
You will have accommodation in the rooms of the Guest-House (Granaio). If you like to sleep outside you can bring your tent. There are normal toilets as well as compost (dry)-toilettes and solar showers. We will be using the kitchen and chow-room of the Guest House. We provide food and water (wine and beer are extra). There is also an open stage, a circus tent and a vast playground for free-time activities. As usual in the dry season we might have to be careful with water usage, but basic needs of drinking and washing will in all cases be met.
WHAT TO BRING
Granara is up on a hill, 600 mt over sea-level, and it might get cold in the evenings, so bring at least a sweater, some type of light raincoat, and a decent sleeping-bag. Do bring rough working clothes, shoes, and gloves. Bring a musical instrument if you play, and/or some of your favourite music.
STUDY PART
There will be study-evenings dedicated to themes related to ecology, appropriate technologies, the history of Granara and S.C.I., as well as evenings dedicated to the evaluation of the work and group building.
FREE TIME
During the week we will spend our free time in the village and its surroundings.
You can do trips to the river to have a swim and hikes in the wilderness. In the evenings we can sing around the bonfire or dance under the stars, put on a show or just laze about. We will encourage and support any initiative that comes from the group.
The weekend 20-21 july anyone is free to plan a trip to the sea (the fabulous Cinque Terre are only one hour away by train) or to the art cities, or you can stay at the village and relax.
On Friday the 26th we plan to organize a farewell party for the volunteers.
